The City Emblem

The city emblem was formally adopted by the city on April 1, 1948 when Izumisano became a municipality. The citizens were invited to the prize design contest for newly born Izumisano City and Mr.Toshiaki Kodaya was the successful contestant. The emblem design the Japanese syllabary "サノ"(sano) derived from"イズミサノ"(Izumisano) in the manner of broadening toward the end. the design is symbolic of the future prosperity of the city endowed with boundless potentialities.

Japanese lily - The City Flower

The Japanese lily (Lilum Japonicum), a species of the lily family, grown among the mountainns within the city area. The flowers bloom early June every year, in color pure white or lovely pink, and their faint fragrance attracts admiration.

Maidenhair tree - The City Tree

The maidenhair tree is deciduous high tree and attains an old age. This tree was adopted as the city tree because of the semblance of fan-shaped leaves to the city emblem. Leaves turn a beautiful yellow before they fall in autumn. The fruit produced is called the ginkgo nut which is eaten with relish.

Senshu

Izumisano City is located in the south of Osaka Prefecture, the biggest city in Western Japan. The southern region of Osaka Prefecture, which includes Izumisano City is called “Senshu”.

Kansai International Airport

Kansai International Airport, otherwise known as “KIX” or “KANKU”, was built on reclaimed land 5 kilometers offshore of Izumisano City and was opened in 1994. The 24-hour airport has 2 runways and provides connections to 28 countries and 67 cities worldwide. More than 746 flights depart a week.

Rinku Town

Rinku Town is adjacent to Kansai International Airport. Following the completion of the airport, Rinku Town was developed in 1994. Rinku Town is also reclaimed land and once was a part of the seashore. Rinku Gate Tower Building, the landmark of Rinku Town, is the tallest building in Western Japan, standing at 256 meters.
Rinku Town features the Rinku Park, a nice spot for dating and taking a walk; the Rinku Premium Outlets, the largest outlet mall in Western Japan with 150 domestic and international brand shops and 8 restaurants; the Rinku Pleasure Town SEACLE, a shopping complex that has 84 stores and many attractive facilities that both children and adults can enjoy. (The Large Ferris Wheel is 85 meters high.)

Vegetables

Vegetables such as onions, cabbage, juicy eggplants and small-sized tomatoes are grown in the Senshu region. The juicy eggplants, known as “mizunasu” are the region’s specialty and perfect for pickling.

Seafood

Fresh seafood from Osaka Bay is caught at Sano Fishing Port, the biggest fishing port in Osaka Prefecture. Shako(squilla, a type of shrimp), Gaccho(a member of the sea bass family) and Watarigani(Japanese Blue Crab) are particularly popular catches at Sano Fishing Port.

Senshu Towel

The Senshu region is known as the birthplace of Japanese towels. The region has a history of 120 years in towel manufacturing. Senshu towel production accounts for 45% of the domestic market. The towel variety known as “atosarashi” is bleached after weaving and has a unique texture and absorbency.

Mt. Inunaki

Mt. Inunaki is known as a place of ascetic practices. You can see nuns as well as monks performing cold water rituals under waterfalls.
Hiking and hot springs attract tourists and locals to Mt. Inunaki.

Jigen-In Tahoutou

This pagoda is designated as a national treasure and is about 10 meters in height.

There are 4 Kindergartens with about 600 children, 13 Elementary schools with about 6,600 children, 5 Junior high schools with about 2,900 children, 3 High schools, as well as one school for physically and mentally challenged children.
